Solar World’s 1st commercial project!

2018 was an exciting year for Solar World, as the team embarked upon their very first commercial project. It was just two years after the company’s inception and the team was small, while industry experience was equally at its infancy. But this did not stop the team from embracing the new challenge with much zeal and enthusiasm. This courageous step taken signifies a huge milestone for Solar World and Fresh Bounce: that proves their readiness to start competing with market leaders in the local industry.

Having had no prior experience with projects of this magnitude, the team had to learn new and innovative methods on the job. Ashvin Rodrigo (Head of Business Development - Solar World) elaborates on the challenges they had to go through, “Planning such a big project was challenging. From engineering to logistics and arranging finance processes with banks, it was all new to the team. Being a commercial-scale project, this required different hardware, and layout at certain points. We had to make sure that all the panels and hardware were on the site when the workers arrived.” The team took this as an opportunity to learn, challenge their own skills, and capabilities.

This 100kW Solar project spanned across two locations and 3 separate buildings: the client owning two of the buildings in Kohuwela and the other in deraniyagala. So, overlooking all three sites simultaneously, among the team of three, deserves praise on its own. Nathan Mahendra (Head of Digital Marketing - Solar World) says, “All three of us were constantly on the sites, day and night. But the project gave us a boost of motivation, proved that we have reached a certain level, where we can go the distance”.
